Melbourne, Australia

IEF Secretary General, Aldo Flores and Director | Energy Dialogue, Zack Henry joined senior energy, foreign affairs and finance officials from G20 member countries as they met in Melbourne from 10-12 February for the first G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group (ESWG) meetings of 2014.

Updating those present on progress made in developing the JODI-Gas database and the capacity building efforts of the JODI partnership, Dr Flores also delivered presentations on the role and potential of the IEF in the context of discussions on the global energy architecture.

Members focussed on issues relating to energy efficiency, global energy architecture, market transparency and investment, and continued work on inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.

Working group members were joined by experts from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Energy Forum, and Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Members acknowledged the importance of energy efficiency and agreed to share national energy efficiency experience and best practice with a view to further improving the uptake of energy efficiency practices and technologies in G20 economies.

The ESWG will meet two more times in May and August, ahead of the Brisbane Leaders’ Summit in November 2014.
