International Energy Forum To Host Special Gas Market Dialogue

The International Energy Forum will host a Special Gas Market Dialogue on Thursday October 28 to give a platform to producers, consumers, industry leaders and analysts to discuss the recent rise in global natural gas prices.

Ministers speaking at the event include H.E. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs of India; H.E. Dr Tawfiq e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram, Adviser (Minister) to the Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs of Bangladesh; and H.E. Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines of Algeria.

Industry leaders featured at the event include Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman & CEO, TotalEnergies and Charif Souki, Executive Chairman of the Board, Tellurian Inc. Dan Yergin, Vice Chairman, IHS Markit and Chairman CERAWeek is among the leading industry analysts also expected to speak.

"There is an urgent need for international dialogue and cooperation to strengthen the resilience of energy systems, protect the vulnerable and mitigate the risks to the global economy recovery," said Joseph McMonigle, Secretary General of the IEF.

"Gas markets in Europe and now Asia are on red alert. Low inventory levels are a challenge for energy security and market stability, with impacts that will be costly and potentially dangerous for consumers," he added.

The meeting is part of the IEF’s commitment to convene global energy dialogue between producer and consumer nations to enhance energy security and market stability. Today, the IEF has 71 member countries from six continents and accounts for some 90 percent of global supply and demand for oil and gas.

The meeting will be held on the virtual IEF platform and livestreamed to the public via the IEF website and social media channels. Registration to watch the livestream is available on the IEF website www.ief.org.
