11th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting

Beijing, China

At the invitation of the government of the People’s Republic of China, the Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) Dr Aldo Flores-Quiroga addressed the 11th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region, in Beijing.

Based on dialogue at preceding high level meetings and contacts with APEC representatives, the IEF, which counts many APEC countries among its member governments, engaged the gathered energy ministers and senior officials of key producing and consuming countries in dialogue on the theme of the Ministerial - ‘Joining Hands Towards Sustainable Energy Development in the Asia Pacific Region’.

In respect of the IEF, APEC Ministers encouraged member economies to submit accurate and complete oil and gas data in a timely fashion and instructed their agencies to implement the Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI), and expand the capacity building of some economies in energy data gathering. In the margins of the meeting the IEF also strengthened relations with senior representatives from other key international organisations, regional industry associations and research institutes.
