IEF Lecture: Understanding the Shifting Dynamics of U.S. Energy Policy and Its Global Implications

IEF Secretary General Jassim Alshirawi is pleased to host an IEF Lecture by Jason Bordoff and Arjun Murti of the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University, on Thursday, 20 November at the IEF Headquarters in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter.
Mr Bordoff will provide opening remarks on the intersection of energy and global politics before IEF Director of Energy Dialogue, Christof van Agt Ross, moderates a discussion on the topic between Mr Bordoff and Mr Murti. The session will end with an audience Q&A.

Biographies
Jason Bordoff
Founding Director, Center on Global Energy Policy; Professor, Columbia SIPA; Professor and Co-Founding Dean Emeritus, Columbia Climate School
Jason Bordoff is the Founding Director of the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he is a Professor of Professional Practice. He is also on the faculty of the Columbia Climate School, where he is Co-Founding Dean Emeritus.
He previously served as Special Assistant to President Barack Obama and Senior Director for Energy and Climate Change on the Staff of the National Security Council. Prior to that appointment, he held senior policy positions on the White House's National Economic Council and Council on Environmental Quality. Earlier in his career, he was a scholar at the Brookings Institution, served in the Treasury Department during the Clinton Administration, and was a consultant with McKinsey & Company.
Arjun Murti
Partner, Veriten
Arjun Murti is currently a partner at Veriten, a research, strategy and investing firm focused on the long-term challenges and opportunities in the energy sector. Mr. Murti has spent over 30 years on Wall Street as an equity research analyst, advisor, and board member covering the global energy sector. Since November 2021, Mr. Murti has published Super-Spiked, a Substack newsletter and podcast about the messy energy transition era.
The bulk of the first 22 years of his career was spent at Goldman Sachs, where he retired as a Partner in 2014 while also serving as Co-Director of Americas Equity Research and as an Equity Research Analyst. Prior to joining Goldman in 1999, Mr. Murti was a buy-side Equity Research Analyst at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. His career began in 1992 at Petrie Parkman & Co, a Denver-based oil & gas boutique investment bank.
In addition to his role at Veriten, Mr. Murti is currently serving as a Director of ConocoPhillips, a Senior Advisor to the Energy Group at Warburg Pincus, and as an Advisory Board member for Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy, ClearPath, and the India Advisory Board at The Nature Conservancy.
Mr. Murti graduated from the University of Denver, with B.S.B.A. in Finance, in 1992.
