JODI Inter-Secretariat meeting November 2025

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

The IEF chaired the third 2025 JODI Inter-Secretariat Meeting in person on 26 November 2025 with the participation of six JODI partner organizations including  APECGECFIEA, IEF, OLADE and OPEC.

This meeting was organized in conjunction with the IEF Energy Market Transparency Seminar: Global Perspectives, JODI and Beyond held at the IEF Headquarters on 25 November 2025. The seminar marked the 20th anniversary of the launch of the JODI Oil database and the 11th anniversary of the launch of the JODI Gas database. Participants explored the opportunities and challenges emerging from the accelerated adoption of digital solutions including inferred data, satellite imagery and near real-time analytics with a clear focus on their role and potential impact, including JODI data, reporting and performance within the global landscape of data transparency.

During the Inter-Secretariat meeting the JODI Partners discussed the key findings of the Seminar and debated the ways forward for JODI. They identified the top priorities for the next five years with a key strategic objective to improve JODI performance and enhance participating economies’ data submissions. The meeting highlighted the necessity to identify the appropriate digital tools for application in the specific context of the JODI framework to foster performance improvements in reporting, presenting and disseminating primary measured data.

The IEF, along with its JODI Partners, reviewed the key elements of the JODI Roadmap, that is being developed as an outcome from the dialogue held during the Energy Market Transparency Seminar, and agreed on core components identified as critical requirements to advance global energy data transparency.

As energy markets become more interconnected and share objectives of achieving sustainability goals through low-carbon solutions, the IEF stressed the importance of providing access to more comparable and inter-operable energy sustainability data made available on a global platform on a more regular basis by concerned parties. This will help to provide critical insights based on key energy market indicators essential to informed decision-making on sustainability objectives. The IEF along with its JODI partners will examine how to make this new initiative possible including by using well-established mechanisms within the JODI framework.

Finally, and to enable progress towards these objectives, regional training and joint capacity building workshops with technical assistance to JODI member economies will be convened in 2026. Expanding cooperation with international institutions will further help to widen the geographical coverage of JODI by including participating economies and regions that are currently not represented in the JODI World Databases.
