IEF Sec-Gen McMonigle Condemns Attacks on Saudi Oil Facilities

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) Joseph McMonigle today issued a statement condemning the attempted attacks Sunday on oil facilities at the Ras Tanura Port and surrounding areas in Saudi Arabia.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Ministry of Energy said attacks were targeted at one of the petroleum tank farms at the Ras Tanura Port, one of the largest oil ports in the world, as well as Saudi Aramco facilities that resulted in fallen shrapnel from a ballistic missile near a residential area in the city of Dhahran. The Ministry statement said that neither attack resulted in any injury or loss of life or property.

Secretary General McMonigle said:

"The IEF joins the global community in condemning these recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, which threaten global energy supplies and world economic stability when the economy is just beginning to recover from the shock of the COVID-19 pandemic."

"Oil export installations, energy infrastructure and international shipping lanes all form a part of the critical foundation that keeps the world economy running smoothly, and any attack on such facilities anywhere in the world is an attack on energy consumers everywhere."

"The attacks are a reminder for governments from producing and consuming countries, as well as the global energy sector, of their responsibility to maintain energy security and market stability in evermore complex and interconnected world markets."
