8th IEF IGU Ministerial Gas Forum

Cairo, Egypt

The 8th IEF-IGU Ministerial Gas Forum, held in partnership with the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) is entitled: "Clean Gas for Energy Security, Shared Prosperity and Climate Action".

Hosted by Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the forum will be held at the Nile Ritz Carlton, Cairo on 29 May 2023.

The forum will be opened by HE Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Egypt; Joseph McMonigle, IEF Secretary General; Li Yalan, President of the IGU; and Osama Mobarez, Secretary General, East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF).

It brings together ministers, industry leaders and experts to identify and advance energy policies and business strategies that will stabilize energy markets and keep shared goals within reach in a fundamentally changed environment.

Ministers and industry leaders, considering the outcomes of the UN Climate Conference (COP27) will focus dialogue on the role clean gas resources and technologies play in energy security, shared prosperity, and climate action in three sessions:

  • Gas trade and investment: Realigning fixed and flexible flows
Government initiatives, energy market signals and financial sector incentives
  • Affordable energy access: Gas for growth and poverty alleviation
Role of gas technologies for inclusive sustainable development
  • Sustainable synergies: Gas, CCUS and Hydrogen
    Government industry collaboration—accelerators for decarbonization

Plenary sessions will enable ministers and industry leaders to delve deep into these issues and contemplate new realities from both a producer and consumer perspective.

Insights gained through dialogue at the 8th IEF-IGU Ministerial Gas Forum will enhance market transparency and strengthen investment and trade relations.
